One of the most common questions I get “Is my pain coming from the joints or the muscles?” The answer to this question typically is, YES! For this reason, our office utilizes several forms of myofascial release to get and keep you out of pain.
Instrument Assisted Soft tissue Mobilization (IASTM) – IASTM has two main functions: to break up abnormal densities in tissue, such as scar tissue, and to reinitiate first-stage healing in the body.
Foam Rolling
Active Release
Pin and stretch
Post Isometric Relaxation Stretching
Band Flossing
Myofascial tissues surround and support the joints and spine. They can become painful and tight after being injured or strained. This can be from an accident, repetitive activities, over training, or even from postural strain. The goal is use linear and cross-friction massage to remove fibrous muscular adhesions, trigger points, and scar tissue. With the goal of restoring healthy function to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves affected by inflammation, injuries, and various traumas.
The practitioners hands or an instrument will be used to treat not only painful areas but also the surrounding areas that may be contributing to your condition. You may experience tenderness/soreness as well as areas that are “rough or “bumpy.” These are the dysfunctional tissue and over the course of treatment, you will notice these areas smoothing out allowing for a decrease in pain and an increase in function.

Myofascial Pain and Restrictions
Some patients have an immediate response to treatment while others need 3-6 treatments for noticeable results. After treatment, you will experience a decrease in inflammation, pain/discomfort, muscle tightness/spasms, enhanced mobility, flexibility, and accelerated recovery.
Some patients may experience slight redness of the skin with possible bruising and mild local discomfort in the treatment area. Home recommendations and exercises will be discussed to help speed up healing.
